Import by Identifier

Add any reference by DOI, arXiv ID, PubMed ID, OpenAlex ID, publisher URL, or title

Paste any identifier and BibForge resolves it to fully structured BibTeX metadata in seconds. Supported formats include DOI, arXiv ID, PubMed ID (PMID), PubMed Central ID (PMCID), OpenAlex ID, Microsoft Academic Graph ID (MAG), publisher URL, and free-text title. No manual entry — BibForge fetches and normalises everything.

01

Open the add reference panel

Click the + Add Reference button in your workspace toolbar. The input field auto-detects the identifier type — just paste and go.

02

Paste your identifier

BibForge accepts all major academic identifiers and publisher URLs:

Review the resolved metadata

BibForge returns the best match with full metadata — like title, authors, journal, year, and abstract.

04

No duplicates, ever

Every paper is tracked by its canonical ID across all identifier types. If the paper is already in your workspace — regardless of which identifier you used — BibForge warns you rather than creating a duplicate.
